Science and Humanities Week
Last week we celebrated another very successful joint Science and Humanities Week at Jessop.
The week began with Science Boffin Kieran running an assembly packed with ‘wow’ investigations! We experienced the wonders of dry ice and watched in amazement as Kieran transformed a liquid into a solid in seconds using a powder called Sodium Polyacrylate!
We were lucky enough to have a number of workshops across KS1 and KS2 run by a lady called Clare McLoughlin from the Royal Astronomical Society. Clare ran Science and Humanities investigations based on designing and constructing various outer space habitats for Aliens and Astronauts. We also learnt some amazing facts about life in Space and the mission of Tim Peake during a Space Travel assembly.
Children and adults in the EYFS rounded the week off with a morning of planting in Milkwood Park with some members of the local community. We used everything we had learnt this term about the life-cycle of a seed to talk about what we might see each time we visited the park! The week concluded with a sharing assembly in which the children had the opportunity to showcase the work they had done during the week and to celebrate their love of Science and Humanities.

Dad's Football
On Friday 13th May there was a slightly older crowd playing football on the Jessop Pitch. Dads and male carers joined together to play against the Jessop staff in a fantastically entertaining football match. Along with showing off some silky skills it was also a great opportunity for staff and parents to work together and shed the typical staff / parent roles.

Pupil Advice for SATs Week (09/05/16 - 13/05/16)
Go to sleep earlier than usual
- Sleep is often be beneficial
- It means starting the day bright and ready
- Breakfast is an important meal of the day, but even more so when sitting exams
- With tests often being in the morning, it's crucial something is eaten before starting the school day, even if feeling too nervous for breakfast
Keep revision quick and concise
- If there is revision to do this week - keep it short and in bursts of 30 minutes.
- Use post-it notes / revision cards to boost already learned facts rather than read the textbooks.
